A GUIDE TO CONTOUR
Everybody’s contouring needs will differ based on their bone structure and face shape, but it improves the inherent facial features for everyone.
Preparing the face
For any makeup product to be applied, preparing the skin before application serves several benefits. One major benefit is that it shields the skin from the side effects of harsh chemicals that might be used in makeup products, if any. Always begin with a face wash and moisturizer to prevent makeup from sticking to any areas of dry skin or pronounced wrinkles. Cover any blemishes or discoloration on the skin by evening it out with a little foundation or concealer in tones that complement your natural skin tone.
Contouring
Using your darker shade to cast a shadow beneath your cheekbones is the simplest and most common approach to contouring. You can put the contour cream or powder in one of these. This would be determined by your facial structure: along the sides of your nose; in a “3” digit shape that follows your hairline; beneath your cheekbones; and along your jawline. Get the appearance that suits you by experimenting with various lines and using shadows to shape your face.
Highlighting
Highlighting becomes conspicuous when you put the highlighter on the regions of your face that naturally reflect light, such as your forehead, the bridge, and tip of your nose, the cheekbones, and the area surrounding your eyes. It is preferable to use a lighter tone.
Blush
Applying blush on the cheekbones is optional. However, it can make your makeup appear more natural by being a transitional color between your shadow and the areas you put highlighter on.
Blending right
Blending perfectly determines whether your makeup will have a professional look or not. Blend using a sponge until the makeup on your face appears natural. You can finally top it with a setting spray.
WHAT TO USE FOR CONTOURING: CREAM OR POWDER?
While cream and liquid makeup are excellent choices for contouring, some prefer powder because it gives them the most control. You can move on to a cream or liquid after you feel more at ease using the procedure. Be it powder or liquid.
Make sure to test a variety of hues on your skin until you discover the one that complements your skin tone the best. Use a powder that is a shade or two darker for contouring. If you have fair skin, it’s better to avoid anything orange-colored; if you have medium skin, go with a more bronze hue; and for dark skin, you can experiment with deeper shades.
